Intramuscular injection is a commonly used drug injection treatment method, which refers to injecting the drug solution into the muscle tissue through a syringe, which is effective quickly. The most commonly used injection part for intramuscular injection is the gluteus maximus, followed by the gluteus medius, gluteus minimus, vastus lateralis, and deltoid. But sometimes lumps will appear the next day after intramuscular injection. Because the principle of intramuscular injection is that the drug is dissolved in the tissue fluid, enters the capillary network and then flows into the vein or directly into the small vein or enters the lymph fluid and then flows into the large vein, and circulates throughout the body. The lumps must be caused by the lack of better absorption of the drug. Of course, there are many reasons for poor absorption.
Reasons for lumps caused by intramuscular injection:
1. Blood vessels rupture, deep blood is gradually absorbed and organized, forming lumps.
2. Drug stimulation. Some drugs cannot be absorbed in time and remain in the local area, causing chemical stimulation to the local area, causing tissue hyperplasia and lumps.
3. Injection of drugs that are not easily absorbed. Oil agents are more difficult to absorb than water agents, such as oil steroids and oil penicillin. Insufficient injection depth is prone to lumps.
4. Incorrect injection site, drug injection in subcutaneous tissue, drug is difficult to enter the blood, local drug solution is easy to form a lump.
The following are the methods to eliminate the lump of intramuscular injection:
1. Hot compress method
Fold the towel or gauze into a square, soak it in 60 degrees Celsius hot water, take it out and wring it out to cover the hardened part, replace it after the temperature dissipates, twice a day, half an hour each time, for 7-10 days, you can also use a hot water bottle for continuous hot compress, but be careful to wrap a towel outside to prevent burns. Note: Do not apply hot compress right after the injection, which will not only fail to promote drug absorption, but also may induce the risk of needle eye infection, so it must be done 2 hours later. Moreover, long-term hot compress is useless when hardening is formed, so it is only necessary to find it in time and deal with it in time.
2. Potato method
Take fresh potatoes, wash them, cut them into 1-2 cm thin slices, cover the hardened part, and continue for 40-50 minutes, 3-4 times a day. If the area is large or the symptoms are severe, you can grind the potatoes into a paste, wrap them with gauze, and apply them to the affected area. Note: To promote local blood circulation, you can first heat the potatoes with hot water for 1-2 minutes. Precautions: After the injection, you can only use your fingers to press the cotton ball to stop bleeding; do not rub it. Inject alternately on both sides of the buttocks, and inject in small doses.
3. Wet compress of medicine
Use 50% magnesium sulfate solution and wet compress with gauze locally to achieve the functions of anti-inflammatory, analgesic and increased absorption.
4. Wet burn ointment application method
Wet burn ointment has the effects of promoting blood circulation and removing blood stasis, clearing away heat and detoxification, anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and promoting healing. Apply it to the wound surface and cooperate with infrared irradiation for 30 minutes each time, twice a day, which can help reduce damage and prevent infection.
5. Local massage
It can promote blood circulation, relieve muscle pain, and help edema subside. Specific method: First clean the gauze at the location of the induration, and massage the gauze with the middle finger or index finger. Pay attention to slow movements and appropriate strength. 50 weeks in clockwise and counterclockwise directions, twice a day.
Notes:
1. The best time to inject: after taking a bath and before going to bed
2. Do not take a bath within 6 hours after the injection
3. Do not apply force to the injection site
4. If the lump itches, try not to scratch it, as it will affect the absorption of the drug
5. Avoid spicy and irritating foods
